Story of a House: Welcome to Bunker Road

I never saw myself as a country girl. I still don’t. My husband, on the other hand, has fantasized about having a vacation house in New Hampshire as long as I can remember. So I could not have been more surprised when I fell head over heels in love with this house, below — a farmhouse in New London NH — and signed on the dotted line to become a homeowner here. I can’t wait to show you more photos in coming weeks of the interior and the projects I’m planning there!

I guess I shouldn’t have been so surprised at the turn of events though — in some ways it’s like art imitating life & vice versa, as my dad Gayle Asher, an artist in Connecticut, has been painting scenes just like this house for decades & it has kind of shaped my ideal landscape somehow. I’m currently bribing him to do a painting of the house on Bunker Road that I can hang prominently in our house in Washington DC so that I can see this beautiful view every day when I’m not there. I absolutely love DC but have to admit that New England’s charms are pretty amazing, aren’t they??
