Chase Away the Winter Blues!
It’s been a cold dreary but SNOWLESS:( winter here in DC, so it got me thinking of things to share that would give everyone some cheer. From embracing the season a la the “Hygge” craze, to activating straight up denial — here are a few things on my radar to get us through til Spring!!
If you’re going with the “spring countdown”-strategy to get through winter, these beautiful sandals give a dose of optimism for sure. Can’t wait til mine arrive!
FYI, before I forget —I’ll post all of these items into my “Shop” page on the website so you have it there too. If you happen to buy anything via these links (in the blog or in my online shop), I may receive a small (I mean TINY:) percentage of the sale, which helps keep ElegantMayhem.com running smoothly. Ok, disclosure done!
Another way to breeze through Winter is to have people over & not stay so isolated. I got this gorgeous book to prep me for some swell soirees chez moi….but unfortunately it was SO beautiful & the people in it seemed to entertain so effortlessly, I haven’t gotten off the dime. Yet! It really does have very inspiring examples of different ways to entertain comfortably…
Is there anything more depressing than when your jeans are too tight AND it’s gray & sleeting outside? I’m gonna say no, there is NOT. So on a frigid gray day, I dragged myself out to get some updated jeans - and voila! I’d never worn this brand before (Mother) but these are very forgiving & flattering.
If you just want to get cozy but don’t want to invest in “winter only” pieces at this point in the year, I recommend the famous $100 cashmere sweater from Everlane. They sell direct to consumer so the prices are amazing & the quality is top-notch….
A super versatile piece I got for my trip to Europe last November is this funnel-neck velvet top, which I layered with a blazer in the day or wore solo for evenings out. And now it’s on sale! You’re welcome:)
I’m trying to remember to wear makeup this year - if nothing else than a bright lip & mascara. I LOVE this Chantecaille lip tint because it’s a clean beauty line & the products are never heavy…
Lest we think getting cheered up is only about buying, I’m anxious to see these two documentaries about two of the most interesting people - movie critic Pauline Kael & fashion photographer Bill Cunningham.
One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to not wear black. every. single. day! I’m eyeing this DVF dress to get the party started…
I hate how the beauty biz preys on women’s insecurities so I tend to not be a product junkie….but I do love a natural moisturizer & am obsessed with Tata Harper’s line because it is so pure (& has gorgeous packaging inc. green glass bottle). Highly recommend this lotion to help dry winter skin…
OK, more eyes on the prize - Spring weather! I had a black Lacoste dress like this & wore it out. So versatile! I’m getting this one in navy…
Just staying active & moving around is good way to beat the Winter blues — if that’s your approach, I can’t say enough good things about the fit and fabric of these sweats from Outdoor Voices! I could live in them (& sometimes do:)
I’m seriously due (overdue?) for some new kicks & this Veja line seems to be EVERYWHERE, in a good way:) They’re an eco-friendly brand, using recycled plastic bottles, & are supposed to be super comfortable….
Another option here
Need a few laughs to get through these cold gray days? Thanks to my friend Sarah for putting this hilarious SNL spoof of Farrow & Ball on my radar!
Last but not least, if NONE of the above do the trick for you, you might wanna think about curling into bed with these soft PJ’s from Eberjey (I own more pairs than I can admit) & waiting until the daffodils are out!
Ok, that’s it for now - thanks for reading. And stay tuned for a special Guest Post next week about the Palm Beach Kips Bay show!
Cheers,
Lee
