MY TOP SANITY-SAVING BOOKS & ENTERTAINMENT FOR QUARANTINE
I’ve been binging some good stuff lately & wanted to share — nope, not just TV but books, podcasts, & more! From humor to introspection, I feel like having a range of things to occupy my mind is really, REALLY key during this strange time. So here’s my list - what’s on yours??
On my coffee table - the top three books are some recent go-to’s. I listened to Brene Brown’s new podcast, called “Unlocking Us” where she interviewed Alicia Keys & it was wonderful! Surprisingly deep — so of course I had to get Alicia’s new autobiography. I just started it but love it so far! And Brene Brown’s podcast = great too.
I cannot say enough good things about Ingrid Fettell Lee’s book “Joyful: The Surprising Power of Ordinary Things to Create Extraordinary Happiness”! Thanks to Ginny Wydler (follow her inspiring feed @lilacandpage), I discovered Ingrid & her TED talk as well as this book. It’s a game changer! I just wish it had a workbook to go with it because it is PACKED with insights & so many things you can apply to your own home and lifestyle (the vintage British games were a recent Ebay score & very “joyful” to have around:)
I rediscovered my love for Tim Ferris’ podcasts during quarantine &especially enjoyed his talk with Eat Pray Love author Elizabeth Gilbert. Fascinating stuff. Which led me to……
…..these famous books by Julia Cameron - an approach called “Morning Pages,” which is basically carving out 30 min EVERY A.M. to throw down on paper everything bumping around in your over-crowded head. I’ve only done it for 1 wk but I can see the magic of it already. (BTW, I really am not a fan of crimson & gold nor the font on these books - I’d always heard about this book (& workbook) but was turned off by the presentation. Just saying!:)
If after all that introspection you just want a good laugh, you can never go wrong with Seinfeld’s stand up routines! This one on marriage & kids & LIFE is hilarious. Highly recommend!
My husband & I were both glued to the TV for ESPN’s The Last Dance, a 10-part documentary about the Chicago Bulls that crushed all kinds of viewing records. I loooove basketball, but even if you don’t, I think you’ll find it really interesting. PLUS, it has awesome soundtrack which Spotify put together as a playlist here!
Last but not least, I found the podcast by Pulitzer-prize winner Charles Duhigg - the episode on beating procrastination is hilarious and has tons of insights for keeping us going during this crazy unstructured time at home….
I’ll stop here but have lots of other things to recommend too (ie; Killing Eve, The Durrell’s of Corfu, Ozark, Billions) - so DM me (@elegant.mayhem) if you’re in need of a particular fix! Please take good care & hope you’re surviving okay—
Cheers,
Lee
