As we’re all still processing the turn of events & coping with a LOT of family togetherness, I thought I’d send along my favorite kind of therapy: MOVIES. All five of these movies/shows have an element of travel & sophisticated dialogue….which let’s just say I’m bit nostalgic for as I sit here in a very frumpy sweatpants/PJs outfit, with background noise of my daughter using blender for a smoothie, my husband talking loudly on international conference call & the dog scratching on door to be let in. Calgon, take me away!!
Read MoreSince all anyone is thinking or talking about is Corona virus, I thought you might want to drift back to LAST WEEK (feels like lifetime ago!) & my dreamy trip to San Francisco….I was there for the Design Influencers Conference, which was amazing, and it gave me chance to check out some really unique home design shops. Let’s go!
Read MoreSometimes decorator show houses can be overwhelming, leaving your head spinning at the glimpse of any shiny object. And since lacquer and lots of color are still in vogue, my head did a lot of swivelling at this year’s Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach. Still, I managed to find some peaceful places to rest my eyes. And it was fun to see how designers struck a nice balance between classical and contemporary.
Read MoreIt’s been a cold dreary but SNOWLESS:( winter here in DC, so it got me thinking of things to share that would give everyone some cheer. From embracing the season a la the “Hygge” craze, to activating straight up denial — here are a few things on my radar to get us through til Spring!!
Read MoreWe all have something about ourselves that REALLY bugs us - whether you’re like Nora Ephron who famously did not love her neck, or perhaps you’re like her character Sally (Meg Ryan) who thought of herself as “difficult.” The object of my self-loathing is seemingly much more solvable - & yet it persists. This bugaboo is my unending battle with little piles and half-done projects in every room…of every house…I’ve ever lived in. It follows me like a plague but THIS year I’m determined to crush it!

Read MoreI’m a pretty bang-up last-minute shopper, but certain people on my list require more advance planning. You know those people — they have an eye for detail, quality, originality, beauty….love gorgeous packaging & something perhaps bespoke. If you have someone like this on your Holiday Shopping List too, NOW is the time to get ourselves started! I’ve rounded up a bunch of ideas to suit this super-discriminating type — let’s go….
Read MoreMy favorite season Fall has finally arrived in Washington DC & I’ve been having fun researching fashion finds under $400 (just tops!) to usher in cooler temps. I’m trying something a little different with this post -I know everyone is busy so I’m cutting back on descriptors to give you quicker hit of the selects here. Enjoy!
Read MoreI’m counting down until the auction preview of Lee Radziwill’s estate at Christie’s/NYC! Lee (& her sister, Jackie O) are so well known for their fashion sense, it’s easy to forget their knack for creating iconic living spaces too. While a lot of the drama & beauty in Lee Radziwill’s homes was helped by her sky-high budget & the direction of Renzo Mongiardino, there are lessons in there that anyone can use - whether you are American royalty or not!!
Read MoreHappy Fall! I have to admit this is my favorite season & not the least because there are so many cool cultural things to do. I say “cultural” with a small “c” because of course I have to include guilty pleasures ie; returning TV shows & design books — nothing too high brow on my list! ENJOY…
Read MoreOne of the odd things about being an Empty Nester is not having an “excuse” to hit up every art supply, stationary & Big Box store in my zip code in search of perfect Back-to-School supplies for my daughters. Well, who says I can’t do that for MYSELF?!! Because yes, every girl needs the perfect set of desk ware — no matter her age:) Here are my favorites…
Read More’m reading a business book now called “The Messy Middle: Finding Your Way Through the Hardest & Most Crucial Part of any Bold Venture” & it speaks to exactly what I’m feeling - & perhaps you are too? Read MoreSummer is finally in full swing - so why can’t I relax?? Crazily, it’s because I always overestimate how our summer house will be “done” by this time & then find myself facing reality of projects still unfinished from last summer:( Talk about a First World problem, I know! But if you are on nice long summer vacation or have a place of your own somewhere special, you want to ENJOY it. Here are a few hacks I’ve found to get you there quickly - so you can chill out…
Read MoreI’m baaaack with more updates from DC on the home front — and soon will hopefully be able to show you some progress on our house in New Hampshire too. It’s incremental progress but progress all the same, right?!
Read MoreFirst of all, thank you for reading this & giving me a chance to share a little progress on the homefront here! It’s been 18 months since we moved in and things are finally, sloooowly but surely, coming together. I still have many areas to tackle & fool with, but day-to-day, I feel that this house is really becoming a home. Let me show you what I mean…
Read MoreIt’s been almost 2 months since my trip to London & just as my memories of the interiors & architecture I saw there were beginning to fade, my new subscription to UK House & Garden arrived! It reignited all my interest in what I admired in British design — from a mishmash of patterns, to a curated blend of antiques + modern pieces, a jumble of color, and fresh flowers or greenery ALWAYS. I’ve picked two of my favorite Brits who don’t get much press in the U.S. - hope you’ll find their work inspiring…
